Cate Blanchett zei het al toen ze vorig jaar een Oscar in ontvangst mocht nemen voor de film Blue Jasmine; “And thank you to those of us in the industry who are still foolishly clinging to the idea that female films, with women at the center, are niche experiences. They are not -- audiences want to see them and, in fact, they earn money. The world is round, people.” That’s right Cate, women kick ass! Het wordt tijd dat Hollywood de koppen uit het zand haalt. En dat werd bij de Golden Globes afgelopen weekend nog maar eens bevestigd.
Patricia Arquette gaf een shoutout voor alleenstaande moeders, die het toch allemaal maar voor elkaar boxen. Gina Rodriguez sprak zich uit voor Latijns-Amerikaanse vrouwen, die zichzelf nauwelijks op een representatieve manier in beeld zien. Tina Fey en Amy Poehler durfden het aan en namen Bill Cosby, die verdacht wordt van seksueel misbruik en enorm veel macht geniet binnen Hollywood, op de hak en gaven zijn slachtoffers zo een steuntje in de rug.
En toen was er Maggie Gyllenhaal, die de kroon spande op deze vrouwvriendelijke Golden Globes.
"What I think is new is the wealth of roles for actual women in television and film. That's what I think is revolutionary and evolutionary and it's what's turning me on."
De tijd dat vrouwen echt alleen als decoratie dienen in films en op TV ligt misschien wel voorgoed achter ons. Steeds vaker zien we vrouwen in kick ass rollen die de film dragen, en het besef lijkt eindelijk door te dringen dat ook dat verkoopt. Woehoe!
